In the United States, the Senate has passed a bill on December 2005 that would mandate all analog broadcasts by free to air television networks to stop and cease analog signal transmission by February 17, 2009.

The US Senate bill means that after February 17, 2009, the conventional and widely used analog TV sets in the country will be obsolete and useless.

Why? Because these TV sets would not be able to receive signal transmissions anymore. Thus, the lower-income TV viewers would have to be deprived of TV entertainment.

Has Walmart decided the battle of Blu-Ray vs HD DVD?  As reported on Saturday in my local paper, Walmart said it will start offering High Definition DVD players and discs only in  Sony's Blu-ray format and will phase out Toshiba's HD DVD format.  More bad news for Toshiba in the format wars between Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD

Just last week, both Netflix and Best Buy stated that they were planning to stop selling movies in the Toshiba HD DVD format.  This has got to be the biggest war since the VHS vs. BetaMax in the 1980's.  And in January, Warner Brothers Entertainment  said would stop releasing their movies in the HD DVD format by the end of May.  But Viacom's Paramount Pictures and General Electric's Universal Pictures are still committed to the Toshiba HD DVD format.
